Austrian cup - Haus im Ennstal 2017

Four short days before Christmas we attended an adventurous journey to explore the wonders of the Austrian Hauser Kaibling ski resort which lays near a small town know as Haus im Ennstal. Thankfully we didn’t have only clean and comfy bedding for the night but also a great company of our dear friends from the club 100. Hard. Fortunately, we were in shape thanks to our training camp which took place on our favorite glacier Kaunertal. We even spent the foregoing two days by training and preparation for the deadly race which was awaiting us. The biggest highlight was the food which was lovingly prepared

and served by the grandma of our two favorite lazy fuckers aka the brothers Choleva, which was awesome because otherwise, we would have to prepare it ourselves and honestly, we’re miserable chefs (that is one of the reasons why we stick to snowboarding).

Since this was the first competition of this marvelous upcoming season, we were stoked to compete. Sadly the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. Pea, had to visit our dearest hospital in Schladming. This time with Jiri Starecek, who let the first day take the best of him and ended up with a concussion and a dislocated shoulder (three cheers for winter sports, guys!). Just to ensure you, he is alright already.

The others totally owned the two parallel giant slaloms which were ridden in the race format - which basically means that you have only two runs to complete, therefore the competition was quickly over. Breathtaking was the organization of Austrian races - everything went the way it should and there were usually no obstacles to slow down the race’s pace. Despite this fact, our Klaras managed to get to the start last minute and nearly missed it (which isn’t really a surprise when it comes to our favorite Klara, though). The slaloms were pretty long but regular and symmetrical, so it was easy to suppress our christmassy spirit and enjoy the ride!

As I stated earlier, Christmas was just behind the corner so we decided to put up a tentative Christmas tree (just for your information.. it was a pathetic branch with a golden ribbon on its top - we were in a desperate need to make it festive) and organized a lucky dip with totally useless stuff (or presents, if you will), which was fun. The spirit of Christmas was upon us.

The only downside of this dope trip was the piercing cold and unpleasant staff in the restaurant next to the gondola. Luckily, that doesn’t happen often, since Austrians happen to be very welcoming and kind.

See you next Christmas, Haus!
